Thanks again for an amazing job! Making perfection the norm isn’t easy. It seems routine for you though.

FROM SCRATCH TO PATCH

Yes, I would love to design your new patch! The process is simple; send me an email and tell me what the occasion for the patch is, how many you’d need and when you need them. Some clients already have a clear idea or even a sketch of what they’re looking for. That's great! However designing the patch is the fun part for me, so I would like to have some creative freedom. I like clean designs that are not too cluttered. I truly believe in “less is more”. It’s only a small surface we can use and although I will provide the best quality available, you will lose some detail with embroidered patches. When you’re 100% happy with the design, the patches will go into production and I will keep you updated on the progress and the shipping.

You’ve been a huge help and honestly a vital part of our squadron here in the UK.

RED'S STORY

My first patch design dates back to early 1997; I’d graduated from art school and had a vivid passion for jets. This came as no surprise since I grew up next to an air force base in the Netherlands. It was home to the 32nd TFS "Wolfhounds”. An American squadron that flew the mighty F-15 Eagle. It was love at first sight. I collected patches given to me by pilots living in the neighborhood and hung around the base with my American friends. This was also the time when I got nicknamed “Red”, which was clearly caused by my Howdy Doody appearance. At some point I obtained a patch from an overseas F-15 squadron that just didn’t look right to me. I redesigned the patch, printed it out and mailed my design to the squadron. I clearly remember the squadron’s reply a couple of weeks later. An embroidered patch came in together with a small note saying: “Hey Red, we loved the design! All the guys are wearing your patch. I hope you like the result.” I was a happy camper; my bold move had paid off in the best possible way. Clearly the squadrons were appreciating my efforts, as more design requests were coming in. I started a collaboration with a patch embroidery, so I could keep a close eye on production and quality. I've been accused of being a perfectionist. Something I cherish deeply. Sierra Hotel all the way!

To date, I’ve designed many patches and I’m proud to say my name and reputation are well known amongst fighter pilots and crew chiefs. I’m grateful to all the Commanders and Snack-O’s who’ve approved my designs over the years and who have given me the opportunity to work with and for them. Seeing photos in the media of my patches, being worn by aircrews during their missions all over the world, is the biggest reward.

The patches have arrived safely and so far the response has been extremely positive.
